A Dream Come True: Sunday Night Football with John Madden and Monday Night Football on ESPN
Have you ever caught Sunday Night Football with John Madden and Monday Night Football on ESPN. It is a dream come true for most football fans.
Considering Monday Night Football has always been on ABC since its debut nearly 40 years ago, it’s a little odd that it’s on a different network. It felt like the end of an era last year when the last Monday Night Football on ABC aired, with scenes over the years.
At the same time, what we have now is, in my humble opinion, an excellent combination. Something we only dreamed of when I was a kid.
Sunday night we will have Sunday Night Football with John Madden and Al Michaels, the same team that has run Monday Night Football for several years. I can’t imagine TV football without John Madden and him drawing little diagrams on the screen.
And then Monday night, we get Monday Night Football on ESPN. I remember when ESPN started in the early 80s, who would have thought it would ever host the institution of Monday Night Football?
And yet, ESPN brought a certain pop and attitude to MNF that I really didn’t realize was missing until this year. One of the best and wisest things they did was to keep the theme song music the same.
So here’s Sunday and Monday night football. Maybe we can start adding the other night now as well. That would be something, right?
